Pop-up learning space - empowering people thinking about making the hard decision to start their own business.
Starting a business is hard! People who want to start businesses struggle to find appropriate information in a way they can understand.
Come to 'Business for Everyone' for simple, personalised, face-to-face information and guidance. We want to see more people successfully starting a business in a pain free and simple way. Providing that person-to-person relationship that is so important in helping people make decisions. There will also be an online tool that will reflect the information and ethos delivered on site.
Our initial idea was risk and how people deal with the risks in everyday life decisions. We spoke to people about difficult decisions they had made and a few people mentioned the difficulty of starting their own business. They said their was a lack of clear information. From our interviews we also found that relationships and human interaction are the most important thing in making decisions.
So we decided on a pop up space where you can access all kinds of business support. In the space curious customers will meet a BFE employee (who is an experienced and friendly businessperson) to talk to about their business idea, their worries, challenges and direction.
Printed information from a range of organisations is available - importantly this information has been redesigned to deliver clearer and contextually relivant information.
A special printing station is available to print out 'business check lists' personalised for each customer.
Screens in every space show user stories of previous BFE customers - 'you can't be what you can't see'!
The BFE employees are instructed to listen and given unbiased but informed advice to customers. We have a BFE ethos that puts the focus on; listening, empowering, informing users - avoiding the tyranny of choice and communicated plainly.
It would travel to festivals, schools/colleges, town centres, disadvantaged areas etc.
It is important because people who have started businesses said guidance was unclear and impersonal. We want to make the process easier and less of a pain point.
